About me

Robert Koren is a professional football player from Slovenia. In recent years he has been an important squad member of the English football club West Bromwich Albion as their midfielder and has also captained the Slovenian national team when they qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

He was born on 20 September 1980 in a small Slovenian town of Radlje ob Dravi and started off his sports career in some Slovenian football clubs (NK Radlje, NK Dravograd, NK Publikum). His international career kicked off in 2004 when he signed a contract with the Norwegian side Lillestrøm, where he stayed for three years and became one of the best foreign football players of the Norwegian professional league Tippeligae. In 2006, he scored 10 goals for Lillestrøm and won the Kniksen award for the best midfielder in the Norwegian league.

In 2007, he signed a contract with West Bromwich Albion F.C. and continued his sports career in England. Before transferring to WBS, he had aroused the interest of a number of other football clubs, including Leeds United and Manchaster City. His WBA debut was in January 2007, in a FA Cup match against Leeds.  In the 2007/2008 season, he scored 10 goals for his team and thus greatly contributed to the club's promotion to the Premier League, where he kept up his successful performance on the field and scored the first Slovenian goal in the elite Premier League in a match against Middlesbrough FC.  WBA supporters selected him the West Bromwich Albion FC player of the year in the 2008/2009 season.

In the 2009/2010 season, his performance for WBA in the Champions League remained excellent and he scored 5 goals. He was one of the players who took most credit for the club winning promotion back to the Premier League.

In August 2010 Robert has signed a two-year deal with the Championship club - Hull City A.F.C. with a third year option for both parties.

Koren’s full international debut for the Slovenian national team was on 2 April 2003 in Ljubljana, in a Euro 2004 qualification match against Cyprus. So far he has played 61 matches for the national squad. He has also captained the team in their historic victory over Russia and thus qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
