After the match against England in Port Elizabeth, the situation in Group C cleared up and unfortunately our South Africa World Cup journey came to an end. Saying goodbye to it all was not easy as we had been expecting to make it into the knockout stage and achieve our goal.
Even before the match with the USA we had known we would be up against a strong fight for every inch of the pitch. There was much talk about how well prepared the Americans were. But we have proved we are prepared just as well, if not better.
Once again I'm writing to you directly from Johannesburg, where all our thoughts are already focused on the match against the USA. If you'd like to see how I've been spending my free time in faraway Africa, have a look at the following photos.
What a match! All the team members are extremely pleased with having reached our first objective. With Slovenia's first-ever World Cup victory we broke the ice and we do hope this is only the beginning. It's clear what our master plan is – we would like to make it into the knockout stage.
After having scored the only goal of the match, thanks to which Slovenia clinched its first 3 points ever in the World Cup, Budweiser representatives (one of the main official FIFA World Cup sponsors)acknowledged me as the player of the match.
Our preparations for the match against Algeria were done in a relaxed atmosphere although we could all feel the positive vibe and an enormous craving that the first match should finally begin.
