The Slovenian national football team is a squad selected by the Football Association of Slovenia (NZS) which represents Slovenia on the international level. Since 3 January 2007, the team's head coach has been Matjaž Kek and its captain Robert Koren, who took on the position in 2008.
Slovenia played its first international match in Tallinn against Estonia, in 1992. So far the team’s major successes include qualifying for the UEFA Euro 2000, the FIFA World Cup 2002 and the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
In the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification Slovenia came third in Group 3 and made it to the play-off, where the team defeated Russia and thus qualified for the World Cup for the second time.
